Will I be drafted in the military if I am recognized Italian citizen since birth?No. On May 8, 2001, the Italian government passed a law (Art. 7 del D. Lgs. 8 maggio 2001 n. 215) making military service completely voluntary effective January 2007 for any Italian citizen. In other words, even if you are declared Italian citizen retroactively, you will not be requested to perform any military service
I am trying to understand if I qualify for Italian citizenship by descent. Is there a generation limit?No. The Italian citizenship law establishes there are no generation limits when applying for citizenship ius sanguinis (by descent). However, it is important that your did not emigrate from Italy prior to March 17, 1861.
Another family member obtained citizenship through a different consulate. Can all the documents be transferred to my local consulate?No. As of January 1st 2012 Italian missions abroad cannot transfer citizenship documents to one office to another. Consequently, if your relative submitted all the citizenship documents through a different consulate you will need to reacquire and submit all the documents again to your local consulate.

If I become an Italian citizen can I establish my residence, live and work in another EU country?Yes. With your Italian passport you can live and work anywhere within the EU under Article 17 and 18 of the Treaty on European Union. Pursuant to said articles any person holding the nationality of a member state is a citizen of the Union.
When applying for citizenship am I required to register all my marriages, divorces and births of my children?Yes. The Italian law requires that every italian citizens (including newly recognized Italian citizens) register all events occurred in their life (prior and after the citizenship application)
Myself or one of my ascendants was adopted by Italian citizens. Do I still qualify for Italian citizenship by descent?Yes. Under the Italian law adopted children are legally treated as natural children. If the name of the Italian parents are listed on the birth certificate you do not need to produce the adoption papers.

Will my Italian citizenship affect my US, UK or Canadian citizenship?No. Very many countries in the world nowadays allow multiple citizenships. Being recognized as an Italian citizen by descent or will not affect your US, UK or Canadian citizenship. However, certain jobs requiring hiring security clearance do not permit an employee to hold two or multiple citizenships.
Is my spouse entitled to Italian citizenship as well?Yes. The spouse of a person who obtained Italian citizenship by descent ca apply for citizenship by marriage through the local consulate after 3 years of marriage (1.5 if the couple has minor children). Please note that if the marriage was celebrated before 1983 the transfer of citizenship was automatic
