The Italian National Health Care System

Acquiring Italian Citizenship means to be able to access public medical care and high quality public education as available to EU citizens.
In Italy healthcare is provided to all citizens and residents by the public-italian Health system called Sistema sanitario nazionale (SSN), which is organized under the Ministry of Health and is administered on a regional basis.
Every Italian citizen is eligible to have a local Family Doctor, who is entirely paid by the SSN, and who must offer visiting time at least five days a week and have a limit of 1500 patients. Patients can choose and change their family doctors if necessary.

Visits by specialist doctors or diagnostic tests are provided by the public hospitals or by conventioned private ones, and if prescribed by the family doctor require only a copay and are free for people with low income.

The Italian Health care System ranks 2nd in the world World Health Organization's Ranking of the World's Health Systems, while the US system is 37!
